„Freiburg model” for Life Saving of Resuscitation Patients
Florian Wahl, Chairman of the Committee for Social Affairs, Health and Integration in the State Parliament of Baden-Württemberg (BW), together with an SPD delegation from Freiburg and BW, visited the University Emergency Center of the Medical Center – University of Freiburg and the CARL Academy in the Güterhalle.
They were not only introduced to the Freiburg Model Project for Life Saving in a joint presentation and a realistic simulation but were also actively and successfully involved in the simulation of a rescue operation. The groundbreaking idea of the model projects is to structure and structure and systematize the rescue chain as a whole for patients with cardiac arrest.
Prof. Michael Müller, chief physician at St. Josef’s Hospital in Freiburg and co-initiator of the “Region der Lebensretter” (Region of Life Savers) association, presented the successes to date of a structured, digitally via an app supported, system for first responder alerting. After all, it is the first few minutes that determine the chance of survival for resuscitation patients.
If the initial care is successful, a specialized Cardiac Arrest rescue team can take over for a targeted reperfusion strategy on the scene. For the clinical team of the Medical Center – University of Freiburg, Prof. Georg Trummer and Prof. Jörg Busch presented the structures of the Freiburg model, including the REA-MOBIL, which is specifically equipped for the out-of-hospital use for the care for resuscitation patients. For targeted reperfusion after cardiac arrest, the researchers at the Medical Center – University of Freiburg have developed CARL, a dedicated care concept from which patients in Freiburg are already benefiting today.
“The Freiburg model demonstrates very well the potential that can be unleashed for improved patient care when clinical research, intersectoral care management and (digital) cutting-edge technology are systematically linked,” summarizes Dr. Thomas Kraft, CEO of Resuscitec. “We are convinced that the Freiburg model will find increasingly application beyond Baden-Württemberg.”
