CARL. saves lives in Kyiv

December 1, 2025

Two CARL Controllers were donated to the Kyiv Heart Institute and have now been used for the first time – with great success.

The first patient, an 82-year-old woman, suffered an acute myocardial infarction. Due to cardiogenic shock and rapid deterioration of the condition she was connected to the CARL Controller (during ECPR), PCI and stenting were performed, and after 2 days she was successfully disconnected. After 2 weeks of treatment, we are happy to announce that she was discharged in good condition.

Improving care in Kyiv and the surrounding area

Borys Todurov, Chief of the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, emphasizes:
“In this case the CARL system was used for ECPR for the first time in the Kyiv Heart Institute. It was easy to operate both during initiation and while transporting the patient to the ICU. On behalf of the Heart Institute and our patients, we would like to thank you for your support.”

A big compliment from our side goes to the entire medical team and their remarkable effort. We are delighted to be able to play our part in improving care for patients with acute cardiac arrest in Kyiv and the surrounding area.
